World Teachers Day

World Teacher’s Day 2021’s theme is Teachers at the heart of education recovery. The reason why the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) presented this theme for World Teacher’s Day is to appreciate teachers’ determined and diligent efforts in the crucial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, which is a global observance, will be held online.

The official celebrations event on the 5th of October will be opened by Ms. Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO’s Director-General, followed by statements from the Heads of Co-Convening Partners – namely UNICEF, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and Education International (EI).

I think we can all agree that teachers make a huge difference in the world. They are tasked with the responsibility to help mould young minds and help educate them. I get so many wonderful memories when I think about all the teachers whose hands I have had the pleasure to pass through. My high school English teacher made me understand that failing doesn’t mean you stay down there but it gives you the chance to get back up and make your way to the top; which ultimately made me a really good English student.

My P.E. teacher made me see the value of exercising and staying fit, which I was not a fan of. She, however, made me love the lesson with all the fun stuff we did that made us stay fit. My Math teacher, who taught with so much patience, helped show me that numbers are quite fun, even though I did struggle with them a lot of times.

As we mark World Teacher’s Day today, may we appreciate all the little and big things that teachers continue to do for us. And, if in any way, can help to reciprocate their efforts and show gratitude, may we be able to do so as we say thank you!
