Four things at the office at the start of the month

The start of a new month allows one to reflect on the past, plan for the future, and take care of important tasks. Professional or personal, here are five things you can do to kick-start your month with momentum and purpose.

Reflection and planning
Reflect on the previous month, personally and professionally. What worked well, what did not, and what opportunities did you miss? This reflection will help you to make better plans for the new month. Use hard copy planners or digital tools to plan your month, including important meetings, events, projects, and deadlines.

Setting goals
The start of the month is a great time to set specific, short-term goals to help you achieve your long-term objectives. Following the 21-day rule, focus on a goal for 21 consecutive days to turn it into a habit. Whether reading a book chapter daily or taking a daily walk, setting small, achievable goals is crucial to long-term success.

Paying bills
Prompt bill payment helps ensure timely payment and frees up your mental energy to focus on other things. Additionally, the start of the month is an excellent time to prepare a budget, and plan to purchase necessary items before they run out.

Office day
Use the start of the month to tackle the admin-related tasks that tend to pile up over time. An office day may involve shredding unnecessary papers, deleting unnecessary emails, organising your desk, and filing necessary documents. Having an office day can increase productivity and reduce stress.

The start of the month provides a valuable opportunity to reflect, plan, and take care of important tasks. Incorporating these five things into your monthly routine will help you create momentum and reach your professional and personal goals.
