Summary
The Kenya Climate Change Working Group (KCCWG) is a national climate change network that includes 270 agencies, from local to international, focused on tackling the causes and effects of climate change in Kenya, Africa, and beyond.
The KCCWG comprises nine thematic areas: urbanisation, water, forestry, energy, tourism trade, and industry. One of the KCCWG’s projects is the Changieni Rasilimali (CRM), translated as Contribution to Natural Resources in English, aimed at strengthening the response to climate change in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands. KCCWG and its partners seek to address the weak capacity of the state, non-state actors, and poor communities to respond to climate change by enhancing citizen participation in adaptation and mitigation actions at the local, national, and global levels.
The CRM project also aims to improve understanding, knowledge, and awareness of climate change at all levels and strengthen the engagement framework for formulating and implementing pro-poor climate change policies and legislative measures in Kenya. In addition, the KCCWG is forming county-level climate change networks to ensure maximum participation in project activities of state and non-state actors of the target counties. Through these networks, KCCWG aims to cultivate ownership of the project’s activities by the target groups and form the basis for distributing information, education, and communication materials.
