Summary
The Sound of Silence is a theme that we developed to highlight the vulnerabilities and perils of mostly underage girls. We were commissioned by Equality Now to develop a series of posters that would speak to the messages that were written anonymously by these children.
They were first presented in Mauritius at an AU meeting of the African COmmittee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. The work was presented as posters because they were easy to transport across the countries where these were later distributed. These included Mauritius, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, The Gambia and Mauritania.
Our brief
Theme concept
We conceptualised the theme the Sound of Silence, to represent the countless victims of abuse who are forced to remain silent for fear of reprisal, shame, threats from their abusers and even ex-communication from their communities
Illustrations
We developed and created the illustrations to match the message on each flyer
Translation
We translated the flyers from English to Kiswahili and French because they were to be distributed across Africa, in both the Francophone and Anglophone countries.
